Uber Eats Casts a Wider Delivery Net With Nationwide Shipping
If you're craving something from a restaurant not available in your area, Uber Eats' new nationwide delivery service may be able to help.
The food delivery service, which dates back to 2014, was previously limited to restaurants within biking/driving distance of your abode. With this new delivery option(Opens in a new window), though, you can choose from a selection of restaurants from across the nation, which will ship your order out.
Inside the Uber Eats app, select the nationwide shipping tile. Pick a restaurant, choose your current craving, confirm your order, and you're done. You’ll receive a tracking number from FedEx and can expect your order to arrive within 5-7 business days.
Selection is currently pretty limited; only 15 merchants are available for nationwide delivery, including Waffles and Dinges in Brooklyn, Bludo’s BBQ in Los Angeles, and George’s Stone Crab in Miami. All 15 restaurants are based in California, New York, and Florida, so if you’re craving some beignets from Louisiana or lobster from Maine, you’ll still have to fork over for a plane ticket.
The move comes a few weeks after Uber Eats launched two autonomous delivery pilots in Los Angeles with Serve Robotics and Motional. For those dining in person with friends, meanwhile, the service added bill splitting in March.
