Twitch was recently hit with crypto scam broadcasts where the attackers would hijack popular channels and replace the feed with pre-recorded video broadcasts of bitcoin and other cryptocurrency giveaway scams. One of these accounts appears to be from former OfflineTV streamer Fedmyster and as a result, Twitch has banned his channel as well.
Back in 2020, Federico «FedMyster» Gaytan was removed from the OfflineTV streaming house following a wave of sexual assault allegations against Twitch streamers. The issue was so widespread that it even garnered the #TWITCHBLACKOUT trend where many demanded the platform take action. This fiasco prompted Federico to go offline for a year before coming back to streaming again on his Fedmyster channel sometime in June 2021. Now, Fedmyster's channel has gone offline for a second time, although this time it's a Twitch ban.
Twitch Says ‘Server Configuration Change’ is What Led to the Site Being Hacked
On April 13, fake Elon Musk crypto scam streams hijacked Twitch's «Just Chatting» category where the top spots of the category were taken up by the broadcasts. This included Fedmyster's account where the stream was replaced with two pre-recorded crypto scam broadcasts. Twitch managed to take down these streams by banning the accounts, including the former OfflineTV member's channel. Hours after news of the hack, Twitter bot StreamerBans tweeted that Fedmyster's account has been banned by Twitch, but since this is Fedmyster's first ban it's unlikely to be permanent.
However, this isn't the first time the platform was bombarded with crypto scam broadcasts. Back in November 2020, Twitch's Just Chatting category was met with a similar round of hacks where the platform responded with instant bans.
