Warning: spoilers ahead for Transformers: Beast Wars #13!
IDW Publishing's Transformers: Beast Wars comic adaptation has chosen to make the mysterious alien species known as the Vok a much more prominent force in the story early on than the original television series ever did — and the latest issue just gave them their biggest role yet.
In the Beast Wars TV show, random events in the debut season's earlier episodes suggested that the planet the Maximals and Predacons had crash-landed on might have been visited by some intelligent species before them. This especially became apparent when they came across a tower that shot powerful energy beams on a mysterious floating island filled with boobytraps. It wasn't until the pivotal season finale that the Vok finally presented themselves to the Transformers and attempted to destroy them for contaminating their experiment. After failing the first time, the Vok would later return two more times in seasons two and three, but they were all isolated incidents.

The Vok are not only much more involved in IDW's series, but they even appeared as early as the second comic book issue. That said, they had never interacted with the Maximals or Predacons directly until now, in Transformers: Beast Wars #13 by writer Erik Burnham, artist Winston Chan, colorist Sidvenblu and letterer Jake M.
