New images from Top Gun: Maverick reveal more looks at Tom Cruise and Miles Teller's characters. Cruise starred in the original 1986 Top Gun, his first proper action blockbuster, as Lieutenant Pete Mitchell, a young naval aviator better known by his callsign, Maverick. Aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, he and his Radar Intercept Officer, Nick «Goose» Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards), get the chance to attend the Naval Fighter Weapons School known as Top Gun.
Thirty-six years after he first portrayed Pete Mitchell, Cruise has now returned to the role for the long-awaited sequel. Top Gun: Maverick is set 30 years after the first film and will find the titular test pilot tasked with training a group of talented Top Gun graduates for a special mission. Among the group is Bradley Bradshaw, the son of Maverick's best friend, Goose, who perished during the events of the first movie. Known for his roles in Whiplash and The Divergent Series, Teller will make his debut as the pilot known as Rooster. The sequel will also see the return of Val Kilmer as Iceman and star Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris.
