Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for Top Gun: Maverick. The long-awaited sequel hits theaters and IMAX on May 27.
An official synopsis for the film is as follows: «After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy's top aviators, Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him… Facing an uncertain future and confronting the ghosts of his past, Maverick is drawn into a confrontation with his own deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who will be chosen to fly it.» Check out the new pulse-pounding clip below.
In addition to Cruise, Top Gun: Maverick also stars Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, and Ed Harris. It's directed by Joseph Kosinski, who previously directed Cruise in 2014's Oblivion.
While the Top Gun franchise is largely thought of as synonymous with actor Tom Cruise, producer Jerry Bruckheimer (Young Rock, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) revealed in an interview last year that the star feels the same way about Val Kilmer. So you can rest assured that, indeed, the Iceman cometh back.
Mission Impossible 7, which was repeatedly delayed alongside Top Gun: Maverick, stars Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, Hayley Atwell, and Simon Pegg, and is helmed once more by Christopher McQuarrie. As of January this year, it was revealed that Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 will now respectively open on July 14, 2023 and June 28, 2024.
