Val Kilmer reacts to Top Gun: Maverick's latest trailer which finally reveals Iceman. After more than three decades, Tony Scott's Top Gun is finally getting a follow-up from Joseph Kosinski. The sequel will see Tom Cruise reprising Pete «Maverick» Mitchell, who is now a Naval captain and instructor in the titular flying school. But while Top Gun: Maverick isn't bringing back many characters from the original film, it will also see Kilmer return as Iceman.
Top Gun's story begins when Maverick and his RIO, Nick «Goose» Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards), are sent to train at the US Navy's Fighter Weapons School in San Diego called TOPGUN where they join other elite pilots. That includes Iceman, who becomes Maverick's rival; throughout the whole training period, the pair were locked in an intense competition to be the best in their batch. Ultimately, Kazansky emerged the winner after Mitchell suffered an emotional breakdown when Goose accidentally died. Despite that, the pair eventually became friends and flying partners following a dangerous mission that forced them to rely on each other.

Now, while Maverick headlines Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel will also see Kilmer reprise his role. Marketing for the movie has revealed very little about what to expect from his appearance, but the latest trailer establishes how he fits into the story, and, apparently, he's integral to Mitchell's next job training a new generation of elite pilots, including the son of Goose, Bradley «Rooster» Bradshaw (Miles Teller). Kilmer took it to his official Twitter account to react to this; check it out below:
