Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 plans after Vicarious merger
Plans for a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 remake were apparently scrapped by Activision Blizzard after the company folded developer Vicarious Visions into Blizzard.
That's according to Tony Hawk himself, who during a recent Twitch stream hosted by Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 (TPHS) lead designer Andy Gentile was asked if the third and fourth Pro Skater titles will ever be given the remake treatment.
Hawk claims that was actually the plan until very recently, explaining that Vicarious had fully intended to continue remaking the series' later entries until Activision Blizzard chose to repurpose the studio.
"Even up until the release day of THPS 1+2 we were going 3 and 4, and then Vicarious got absorbed and then [Activision] were looking at other developers and then it was over," said Hawk.
"The truth of it is they were trying to find someone to do 3 and 4 but they just didn't really trust anyone the way they did Vicarious. So they took other pitches from other studios, asking like 'what would you do with the THPS title' and they didn't like anything they heard. Then that was it.
"I wish there was some way to bring it back. Who knows? Maybe when all the dust has settled."
It's interesting to hear Hawk suggest Activision has put the franchise on ice because it doesn't trust anyone but Vicarious with the keys, largely because it was Activision's decision to merge the studio into Blizzard and rebrand it as Blizzard Albany.
After launching in September 2020, THPS 1+2 became the fastest-selling entry in the long-running franchise after shifting over 1 million copies in under two weeks.
