Doom, Quake and Wolfenstein 3D designer John Romero has revealed that his next game will be a first-person shooter built with Unreal Engine 5.
“It’s a new dawn for Romero Games,” the studio said on Tuesday. “We’re working with a major publisher to develop John Romero’s next shooter: an all-new FPS with an original, new IP.
“Our team is expanding, and we’re looking for talented people for all positions and at all experience levels, particularly those with Unreal Engine 5 experience.”
While Romero Games is based in Galway, Ireland, its careers website states that it supports on-site, remote and hybrid work models.
The studio, which was established by ID Software co-founder Romero and his wife Brenda in 2015, is currently advertising nine vacancies across coding, design and art roles.
According to its website, Romero Games’ team has held significant leadership roles on franchises including the Far Cry, Watch Dogs, Forza, Sniper Elite, The Division and Crysis franchises, among others.
Romero Games’ most recent release was mobster game Empire of Sin, which was published by Paradox Interactive in December 2020.
The character-driven strategy title, which is set in 1920s Prohibition-era Chicago, has scores ranging from 43-68 on review aggregation site Metacritic.
