HBO Max unveils the official Tokyo Vice trailer seeing Ansel Elgort as an eager journalist diving into Japan's criminal underworld. Based on the memoir of the same name, the thriller series centers on Jake Adelstein, an American journalist who moves from Missouri to Tokyo in the hopes of reporting on crime in the country. However, as he begins making his way up the ranks and learning of the corruption of the Japanese underworld, he finds himself unable to know who to trust whilst further being drawn in to the mystery.
Alongside Elgort, the cast for Tokyo Vice includes Hiroto Katagiri, Rachel Keller, Ella Rumpf, Rinko Kikuchi, Hideaki Itō, Show Kasamatsu and Tomohisa Yamashita. Development on the thriller series has been in the works for nearly a decade, having first begun as a movie with Daniel Radcliffe set to star as Adelstein and Anthony Mandler at the helm, though would later shift to television in 2019 with a 10-episode straight-to-series order at HBO Max with Michael Mann executive producing and directing the pilot and J.T. Rogers writing. With Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton also reportedly helming multiple episodes of the series and executive producing, audiences are getting their first glimpse at the thriller.
