Warning: This article contains spoilers for Tokyo Vice
Screen Rant has an exclusive clip from Tokyo Vice season 1, episode 8 «Yoshino,» which reveals an interaction between Ken Watanabe's Detective Katagiri and fellow Detective Miyamoto (Hideaki Itô). Tokyo Vice is HBO Max's latest original series, loosely based on the memoir by journalist Jake Adelstein, covering his time as a crime reporter in Tokyo throughout the 90s and early 2000s. Adelstein is played by Ansel Elgort, with a supporting cast that includes Watanabe, Itô, Rachel Keller, Shô Kasamatsu, Shun Sugata, Ayumi Tanida, and Rinko Kikuchi.
Throughout Tokyo Vice season 1, Elgort's Adelstein is seen trying to follow up leads and develop sources, as he begins his career in Tokyo, writing for the biggest newspaper in the world. Along the way, he befriends both Katagiri and Miyamoto, earning their trust as sources. However, when Adelstein is tipped off by a Yakuza boss about a drug shipment, he takes it to both cops in order to help get a story out of it. Upon investigating the drug shipment, none were found, prompting Adelstein burning both of his sources and losing all faith. However, it's revealed in the last episode that Miyamoto is on the take from Yakuza boss Tozawa and protected the drug shipment, while saying that nothing was found. But Katagiri suspects Miyamoto and traps him with a false lead, exposing him as corrupt.
