The Apple Vision Pro is on track for an early 2024 release, but it should be no surprise that the company’s first mixed-reality headset is in the possession of CEO Tim Cook. While previous reports mentioned that the Chief Executive uses the device daily, in a recent interview, Cook recently stated that he watched an entire season of the American sports comedy-drama series Ted Lasso on it.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning’s John Dickerson, Tim Cook revealed that while he uses the Apple Vision Pro on a daily basis, he has access to several things that others do not, likely referring to the unlocked features of the headset. Unfortunately, he has not shared that information with Dickerson for obvious reasons, but he does mention that he watched an entire season of Ted Lasso, suggesting that media consumption will be a part of people’s lives who make the headset their daily driver.
Even during Apple’s ‘Wonderlust’ event, where the iPhone 15 lineup went official, Cook wanted to remind everyone attending at the beginning of the event and those watching the livestream that they should not forget about the Apple Vision Pro, as it is slated to release in 2024 officially. The device was announced at this year’s WWDC keynote, but the launch is expected to happen next year due to a string of challenges that the company is facing.
Tim Cook also mentioned during the interview that creating the Apple Vision Pro was more complex than making something like the iPhone, with hurdles in the development and manufacturing phases. Currently, the two 4K microLED panels found in the Apple Vision Pro are exclusively provided by Sony, with the manufacturer’s previously reported capacity maxing out at just 900,000 units annually.
