Thomas Ravenel was one of the most controversial cast members of Southern Charm. Although he came from a line of gentility, he was caught in a drug scandal that ended up with him serving time. The Ravenel name is one of the most prestigious in South Carolina and the family line can be traced back to the Huguenots.
The Southern Charm’s prominent family have lived in Charleston for years and even have a bridge named after them. Thomas often boasted of his stature in society and was Treasurer of South Carolina until 2007 when he got caught with drug distribution.

In 2007, before Southern Charm, Thomas was serving as South Carolina’s State Treasurer when he was charged with federal cocaine distribution. He ended up doing 10 months in prison and had to resign from his position. In 2014, Thomas ran for office again but lost the senate race. Southern Charm fans watched as he tried to politic his way through the hearts of Charleston residents, but many couldn’t forget his stint in prison.
Kathryn was just 21 years old during Southern Charm season 1, while Thomas was 50 years old at the time. Despite their significant age gap, the two got together in one of reality television’s worst matches. Kathryn and Thomas’ relationship was filled with fighting, breaking up, and making up.
