A recently released modification improves Cyberpunk 2077 path tracing and ray tracing through a simple file tweak.
Although the 2.1 update packed improvements to both ray tracing and path tracing, it also caused some issues compared to previous updates. Some users have reported lower quality after the 2.1 update was installed. A crafty modder has now released a small .ini file that restores the game's ray tracing and path tracing effects to 'normal'. Created by modder 'TenebrisVenit', this file can be downloaded and placed in the game's /platform/pc folder to revert settings and, seemingly, improve ray and path tracing quality.
The modder also included some comparison screenshots, which we've included below. We're pretty sure that PC players will appreciate this tiny mod, and we highly suggest downloading and trying it out from Nexusmods here - going by the comments as well as impressions from DSOGaming, this tweak does appear to improve quality.

"We are still maturing our Path Tracing implementation", he said during an interview with us back in November of this year. "We focused on low-light image stability and overall image quality delivered with Path Tracing. We implemented a quality booster for indirect calculations that stabilized the situations where there normally was a little luminance energy, and as a result, we had a low amount of light samples, resulting in a “boiling” and blurriness effect. We also worked on some details of the image presentation targeting character rendering. Overall I think we managed to bring the solution to a very stable
