The latest gaming phone from RedMagic has a built-in high-speed fan, under-display front-facing camera, and console-like shoulder triggers. It's safe to say it doesn't resemble any mainstream phone on the US market, and unlike other innovative Chinese phones, it's actually coming here.
I'd expect the RedMagic 7 Pro to post some amazing benchmark scores. It uses the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor as in other leading Android phones, but with two advantages that may make a difference. There's a 20,000 rpm, RGB-laden fan built into the back of the phone—like Razer's Phone Cooler Chroma, but built in—as well as a special "Red Core 1" chip that processes audio, haptic feedback, and the lighting.
The 6.8-inch, 2,400-by-1,080 120Hz AMOLED display has an under-display, front-facing camera the way the Galaxy Z Fold3 does, meaning there's no notch or hole punch. There's also an under-display fingerprint sensor. Then, on one edge, because it's a gaming phone, there are shoulder triggers with a 500Hz touch sampling rate.
All of this takes a lot of power, so the RedMagic 7 Pro has a dual-cell, 5,000mAh battery with 65W charging. Of other phones on the US market, only the OnePlus 10 Pro is that fast.
RedMagic is a brand from Nubia, which is a spin-off from ZTE, the gigantic Chinese phone maker. (I just installed a software update on the Iqoo 9 Pro and it still won't stay connected to the network.) Still, I'm a bit concerned about compatibility since RedMagic didn't put any radio or network details in its press release or
