Despite splitting its galactic war relatively evenly across multiple factions, hasn't managed to maintain an equal divide between the Terminid and Automaton fronts, with the playerbase generally favoring the Terminids. As the galactic war of progresses, however, with the potential for new factions to be added, there are some potential ways to alleviate the relative unpopularity of fighting automatons — that is, if the disparity between them is seen as an issue worth trying to solve.
For the most part, fighting against the Terminids is seen as the «default» of, with bugs featuring heavily in the game's promotional material, cover art, and its initial tutorial. As a result, most new players will tend to gravitate toward the Terminid front of the war first, as the game positions them as the default experience. With the developers at Arrowhead Game Studios potentially looking to add a new faction to , splitting up the playerbase even further, it might be worth looking at ways to encourage a more even spread of players across multiple fronts.
Except for periods where a Major Order directs players toward the Automaton front, the Terminid front has been consistently much more popular among the general playerbase of, with at times more than double the player count. This is arguably a problem that doesn't necessarily need to be «solved.» However, as Major Orders and — to a lesser extent — Personal Orders already serve as tools that can push players toward certain fronts, sectors, or planets, one possible solution is to increase the rewards gained from Automaton operations, or have them offer unique rewards.
For a number of reasons, Automaton missions can generally be considered more difficult than their Terminid counterparts, and while the perception of difficulty varies from player to player, Automaton missions do at least require a different playstyle and favor different loadouts.
