The Wizard of Oz is one of the most iconic films in Hollywood history and managed to make stars like Judy Garland a household name practically overnight. It's just been revealed thatBlack-ish creator Kenya Barris is set to direct a reimagined version of the iconic film at Warner Bros. Studios.

The Wizard of Ozhas been reimagined in the past, with Universal Pictures releasing The Wiz back in 1978. The latter film starred Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russel, and many more actors as it told a similar story as the original film with a more urban setting and a much more diverse cast list.

With the upcoming Wizard of Oz film on the way, Deadline reports that Barris is set to both write and direct the reimagining, with Khalabo Ink Society set to produce. There are no details available about the route the film may choose to take, as the deal has just been closed, however, it's fair to say it will closely abide by pieces of the 1900 L. Frank Baum novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, from which it will be adapted. It’s also fair to say that the Black-ish creator will attempt to make the cast a lot more diverse than the 1939 adaptation.

While its early stages now and things can change, Barris' film will hopefully hit the big screen, considering it is now attached to Warner Bros., who have had a lot of trouble getting out their promised projects over the past few weeks.
