The name Deglan was thrown around in Netflix's The Witcher season 2, while only a few months prior, fans were properly introduced to the stony witcher in Nightmare of The Wolf. The anime film was also created by The Witcher's showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, and tells the origin story of Geralt's mentor, Vesemir, along with the events that led to the sacking of Kaer Morhen and the near extinction of witchers.

Though longtime fans of the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski and games developed by CD Projekt Red may have been thrown off by Deglan's introduction, given his close ties to prominent characters in the franchise despite his role being canonically filled by a different witcher. Not to mention Deglan himself held a completely different and much more minor role in the book series. These discrepancies may have muddled the timeline for some fans or caused canon purists to reject Hissrich's adaptation of Sapkowski's world altogether, so today, we are here to get the facts straight.
Some readers may not even remember a Deglan as he was only an off-hand mention in the books as a "mysterious wanderer." What's more, his role as Vesemir's mentor is known to belong to the witcher, Barmin, at least as it's portrayed in CDPR's The Witcher 3. Geralt notes this during one of his conversations with Ciri in the later chapters of the game.
