The release date for the next installment in the VR game series, The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners, called The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners — Chapter 2: Retribution, has been announced. The announcement was made at the Meta Connect showcase on October 11. The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners games have aimed to put players directly into the popular comic book series' world to experience hordes of walkers and difficult choices all in VR. Now, a sequel is on the horizon, and it's coming soon.
The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners was released back in 2020 to mostly positive reception and is often referenced as a strong example of what VR can do for gaming, such as creating a weapon weight system that changed the way certain weapons had to be held. While The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners — Chapter 2: Retribution has been confirmed to be coming to PlayStation VR2 for a while, that version of the game will actually not be released this year. Instead, it appears this year will focus on the Meta Quest 2 and the original PlayStation VR.
The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners — Chapter 2: Retribution will be released on December 1, 2022, for the Meta Quest 2 and the original PlayStation VR. Despite the confirmation for the PlayStation VR2 as well, that system is set to release in early 2023, so it is possible that the PlayStation VR2 version will release around a similar timeframe. Sony confirmed earlier this year that there would not be backwards compatibility between the PlayStation VR and the PlayStation VR 2, so fans that only have PS5s will have to wait until the PlayStation VR2 releases and also wait for the official release date of the PlayStation VR2 version of the game.
