Paramount and Sega have confirmed the planned release date for the third Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
SPOILERS: The second half of this article refers to what happens during the post-credits scene in Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
According to a tweet from the official Sonic movie Twitter account, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be released in cinemas on December 20, 2024.
The announcement was accompanied by a GIF of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, implying all three will be returning for the sequel.
“Running faster, flying higher, and punching harder,” the announcement reads. “#SonicMovie3 hits theatres on December 20, 2024.”
Although the third film’s plot has yet to be revealed, it will likely involve Shadow the Hedgehog, who appears during a post-credits scene at the end of the Sonic 2 movie.
The Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie grossed over $400 million globally in under three months.
The live-action sequel, which was co-produced by Sega and Paramount Pictures, debuted in selected markets on March 30 and is currently the fourth-highest grossing video game adaptation of all time, narrowly ahead of Sony’s Uncharted movie, which was released in January.
