In a recent interview, Dwayne Johnson said that «the whole point» of bringing Black Adam to the big screen in his own standalone movie is to one day make a future movie with a Superman showdown. Talking to CinemaBlend, Johnson said this has been a goal for a long time with the character.
«I have been saying for some time, there’s a new era in the DC Universe that's about to begin,» Johnson said. «And what I meant by that was introducing a brand new character. It's not a sequel, not an existing IP… Two years ago the world had no idea who [Black Adam] was. We did, but not the rest of the masses out there. What I really meant by, 'This is a new era in the DC Universe,' is listening to the fans. And doing our best to give the fans what they want.»
And part of listening to fans, Johnson says, is pitting Superman against Black Adam. As recently as this past summer's Comic-Con, one fan asked whether Black Adam or Superman would win in a fight. Johnson said (via Variety), «It depends who's playing Superman.» Soon enough, we may get to learn who will play Superman in a future film, and who will finally, definitively, ultimately win in an encounter.
Black Adam will be out October 21. The movie will introduce the DC Cinematic Universe to members of the Justice Society of America, including Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Dr. Fate (Pierce Brosnan), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo).
