Marvel has just introduced yet another villain created unwittingly by Iron Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even posthumously, the list of villains created by Iron Man AKA Tony Stark continues to grow. This a pattern that started all the way back at the start of the MCU in 2008’s Iron Man, and has brought the world of MCU to the brink of destruction on several occasions.
Iron Man’s solo projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have each featured a one-time villain created by the influence of Stark himself. Iron Monger in Iron Man wanted to replicate Tony Stark’s innovation with arc reactor technology and the high-tech suit that it powers. In Iron Man 2, Whiplash succeeded in designing his own arc reactor which powered his electrically charged whips and allowed him access to Justin Hammer’s drones. Iron Man 3 featured Aldrich Killian, a man whose bruised ego (after Stark intentionally ignored this tech proposal) led to him fabricating a global terror threat and refining ‘Extremis’, a highly volatile form of genetic manipulation. Though Iron Man defeated each of these enemies, these villains’ origins can be traced back to Tony Stark’s own inflated ego at the beginning of the MCU.
