The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 is happening, but details are thin on the ground at the moment. Amazon's epic fantasy show doesn't yet have a return date, but we do know that, this time, the UK is taking the place of New Zealand for for filming.
While the plot remains a mystery for season 2, that dramatic season 1 finale certainly set the stage for the stakes to ramp up even higher in the new episodes. For one thing, Sauron was finally revealed and was last seen headed to Mordor, formerly the Southlands, while Nori and the Stranger have embarked on a new adventure together, Isildur is thought to be dead, and the Rings of Power themselves have at last been forged.

The Rings of Power season 2 doesn't yet have a release date – but it is filming. Production began (in the UK, with the series no longer filming in New Zealand) on October 2022.
It's unlikely that the second season will take 18 months to wrap filming as the first season did. Not only is production relatively free of COVID interruptions this time around, Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke has hinted that a quicker turnaround is happening and speed is of the essence with the new season.
