To celebrate The Last of Us Day, Naughty Dog finally gave us a full-length trailer for HBO's adaptation, giving us a proper look at what's to come in 2023. Fans of the series have noticed how authentic of an adaptation it is already, with one actor even suggesting that it's going to lead some to believe that the game is an adaptation of the series.
That actor is Jeffrey Pierce, who plays Joel's brother Tommy in the first and second game. Pierce took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the new trailer, first saying that it looks "amazing" and then pointing out instances of Gabriel Luna as Tommy, who is only seen a few times in the footage.

Alongside expressing excitement for the show, Pierce also said that he's so impressed with the trailer that he thinks that first-time watchers are going to believe that the game is actually based on the series and not the other way around. Pierce said, "The crew on The Last Of Us HBO is so brilliant that folks who tune in are going to think the game is based on the series."
Pierce also joked that he hopes to see Joel act like a game character within the show, acting out things that players regularly had to do when playing the game. He said, "When I see the semi-truck in the background, I want Joel to climb up the hood to see if there is anything to scrounge on top of the trailer. Also, might lead to the second story of an apartment building containing duct tape. Or at minimum, a brick".
Ever since the show's initial announcement, one of the key points that has been stressed by the crew making it is that it'll be faithful to the original game, something we've seen with leaked set footage and now through this trailer.
