Actress Joey King had to wear a wig to play Elle Evans for the 2020 Netflix movie The Kissing Booth 2, which is because of a previous role. King herself shared a clip showing her transformation into the character, revealing that her real hair was rather short when filming commenced.
Joey King portrays a typical California teenager in The Kissing Booth. Her character attends Los Angeles Country Day high school and spends time at the extravagant Hollywood home of best friend Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney). The Kissing Booth opens with backstory exposition, as Elle recalls the death of her mother, who previously attended The University of California-Berkeley with Lee's mother.

In the first two Kissing Booth movies, Elle presents herself as a thoughtful young woman, one who slowly learns about how she's perceived by classmates. Elle doesn't quite fit in with the trio of «OMG Girls,» nor does she present herself as a punk rocker like classmate Heather. Elle looks like a relatively normal Cali student, partially due to the hairstyle that Joey King sports while playing her character. However, interestingly, the actress wears a wig for some of her time as Elle in the Kissing Booth franchise.
