In the upcoming Star Wars television series The Acolyte, the Jedi will be getting new uniforms. Set during the High Republic era, the new show will take place roughly 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace. The show's writer and showrunner, Leslye Headland, previously revealed that she drew inspiration from the Star Wars prequels when creating The Acolyte. The new series will depict how the Jedi Order and the Star Wars galaxy, as seen at the beginning of The Phantom Menace, came to be.
The Jedi are practitioners of an ancient religion that devote their live to the study of the light side of the Force, a mystical energy that binds all living things within the Star Wars universe. When designing the Jedi costumes, Lucas and his costume department took inspiration from Japanese samurai robes.

Headland refers to the earlier time periods as "the Renaissance, or the Age of Enlightenment." The new uniforms would match the Jedi's less-exciting lifestyles.
