A Bethesda employee’s LinkedIn profile suggests that, after nearly four years, development on The Elder Scrolls 6 still hasn’t started.
Last June, Bethesda’s Todd Howard mentioned that The Elder Scrolls 6 was still in the design phase, meaning actual development hadn’t started yet.
Seven months later and it’s sounding like little has changed, with another Bethesda employee’s LinkedIn profile page saying that the game is in pre-production.
First spotted by Timur222 on Twitter, the page reads ‘Bethesda Game Studios sets the benchmark for open world gaming and is currently in full production on Starfield, its first new universe in 25 years, and pre-production on the highly-anticipated The Elder Scrolls 6.’
This appears to be the latest update to the profile page, which only happened this month. While it was always clear that The Elder Scrolls 6 wouldn’t release anytime soon, this only further emphasises just how far away the game is.
The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced in 2018 and Bethesda has shared no real updates on its progress since. Even its setting has yet to be confirmed, although there are plenty of fan theories pointing towards either Hammerfell or High Rock from The Elder Scrolls 2.
Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, many wondered if the game will ever come to PlayStation 5. Xbox boss Phil Spencer eventually confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 6 will only release for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Considering the current uncertainty about what will happen to Call Of Duty, it’s worth nothing that at first Skyrim Todd Howard said it was ‘hard to imagine’ The Elder Scrolls 6 not being multiformat.
