The Wayward Realms, the upcoming open-world fantasy RPG from Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall developers Ted Peterson and Julian LeFay, was first announced last summer with a knight in shining armor. Now that we're in the dead of winter, the next trailer from OnceLost Games has a much darker, more sinister tone.
"Lullaby" takes the viewer from a beautiful starscape into a long-forgotten cave that turns out to be an ancient ruin. Heraldic banners line the walls as a pair of stone statues guard a long-dead monarch with an exceptionally long sword. Accidentally knocking a cup seems to awaken whatever dead spirit lurks in this ruin as the screen rumbles with giant footsteps.

If this was Skyrim, we'd assume it was some sort of giant Draugr coming to do us in, but this won't be a Skyrim clone. OnceLost Games has promised Wayward Realms will be a "grand RPG" more akin to the classic role-playing games of yesteryear, with Daggerfall being a prime influence. The game will feature a procedurally generated world with hundreds of thousands of NPCs scattered across the cities and towns of a dynamic world.
It'll also have tons of lore told through very Elder Scrolls-style books. The "Lullaby" trailer gives us our first hint and what to expect with lines about a "world taken," a "goblin ken," and "seven return to ten."
From the previous release, we know that The Wayward Realms will take place in an archipelago of 100 islands where kingdoms are all vying for control. The game will also feature a classless system that lets the player customize their skills and abilities to their own tastes without having to conform to “mage” or “knight” archetypes.
