It's hard to imagine that it’s been 16 years since The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion hit the shelves. Considered one of the greatest RPGs of all time, right up there with the likes of Mass Effect 2 and its very own descendant, Skyrim, it still stands strong to this day. However, there's no hiding the fact that it has visually degraded as the years have gone by, and while there are plenty of mods out there that do give it a bit of a facelift, someone has decided to see what it would look like in a new engine entirely.
Reddit user ControlWurst has managed to take one of the most famous moments in Oblivion and recreate it in Unreal Engine 5. The scene in question is the moment when the player first steps out of the tutorial prison/sewer section and finally gets to see Cyrodiil for the first time. Given that it has been recreated in a more up-to-date development tool, it really is a spectacular piece of footage, even if it is only short. While people in the comments have congratulated the user on a fine job, some have helpfully given some pointers on how it could be improved further.

It's still fantastic as it is, and it really goes to show how far gaming technology has come over the past decade or so. Other people have attempted to show what Oblivion would look like in Unreal Engine 5, with one fan giving viewers a visual treat of the town of Skingrad, reimagined in the ubiquitous and powerful engine. Both examples are quite eye-opening as they really breathe new life into this now rather old, though still beloved, classic, but also may make some imagine the possibilities of a full remake of Oblivion.
