English-speaking fans of the internationally acclaimed manhwa series The Breaker are in for a treat with the recent Volume 2 omnibus released by Ablaze Publishing in January 2022. Originally released in the Korean magazine Young Champ between 2007 and 2010, with a sequel series running from 2010 to 2015, The Breaker has waited a long time to receive an English translation given its international acclaim. Whether you are just getting started with manga or are a manga superfan, for lovers of martial arts and crime manga who may or may not be familiar with their Korean manhwa counterparts, The Breaker is the perfect gateway into a whole other world of action cartooning.
Picking up where the last omnibus left off, The Breaker Omnibus Vol. 2 opens with the protagonist Shiwoon Yi returning to school following his ingestion of the «One Moon Divine Pill» given to him by Shi-Ho the undercover school nurse. Almost the entirety of the second volume deals with the effects this pill has on Shiwoon's body, overflowing it with Qi to the point where he could explode at any moment and leaving him walking a knife's edge between unrivaled power and painful bloody death. Volume 2 also deals with more of Chunwoo Han's (AKA Nine Door Dragon's) backstory and his final acceptance of training Shiwoon. Combining this with amazing highway car chases, an increase in fights, and new characters, Volume 2 takes the best from Volume 1 and leaves the rest mostly behind.
