Scott Derrickson takes to Twitter to share The Black Phone international poster from Finland highlighting the film's terrifying namesake. Based on Joe Hill's short story of the same name, the film is set in 1978 and centers on Finney Shaw, a kid living in a suburban Colorado town being rocked by a string of kidnappings. When Finney himself is kidnapped by the serial killer behind them all and trapped in a soundproof basement, he must use the disconnected phone located there that gives him the ability to communicate with the ghosts of the previous victims to escape.
Mason Thames is leading the cast of The Black Phone as Finney alongside Ethan Hawke as the villainous Grabber, Madeleine McGraw as Finney's sister Gwen, Jeremy Davies as their dad and James Ransone. Development on the horror film was announced in early 2020 when co-writer/director Scott Derrickson signed on for the film with creative partner C. Robert Cargill after departing from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences with Marvel. Following multiple COVID-related delays, The Black Phone is set to hit theaters this June.
