The Afterparty creator/writer/director Christopher Miller took to social media to hype the new cast for season 2. Originally written as a film by Miller, The Afterparty was subsequently changed into a mini-series and was released on Apple TV+ in January 2022 where it was met with rave reviews for its unique genre-bending premise, hilarious yet heartfelt performances, and outrageous comedy. The murder-mystery was quickly renewed for a second season on March 2.
The Afterparty tells the story of a high school reunion gone horribly wrong. After attending the school function, a group of former classmates gathers at an after-party held by the high school outcast-turned-pop star, Xavier (Dave Franco). By the end of the night, the host is found dead at the base of a cliff of his beach-side mansion. Lead Detective Danner (Tiffany Haddish) interviews the remaining party goers to find out who committed the murder. Rounding out the murder suspects are Aniq (Sam Richardson), Zoë (Zoë Chao), Brett (Ike Barinholtz), Chelsea (Illana Glazer), Yasper (Ben Schwartz), and Walt (Jamie Demetriou).
