Comics artistSarah Leuver (@comickergirl) has reimagined Supergirl in new fan art by giving her a makeover inspired by 1990s’ Superboy. Many artists have created their own costumes for the Girl of Steel, but Leuver proves that DC Comics should incorporate the retro look.
Throughout her comic book history, Supergirl has endured a series of changes, with many variations relating to her alter ego, costume, and backstory. While Kara Danvers has become the quintessential version of the character in the DC Universe, her look has evolved with the times. Initially wearing a suit that resembled Superman’s costume, she has had a red skirt that some fans have critiqued as impractical. Artist and fan Sarah Leuver revealed a new but familiar look for Supergirl on Twitter. The cartoon rendition of Kara Danvers sports the 90s’ Superboy costume, with red pants and the signature black leather jacket representative of the era. By giving the costume to Kara, DC would homage the past of the Superman mythos, while remixing it with the future in mind.
