New images from Stranger Things season 4 part 2 reveal Steve and Nancy escaped Vecna in the Upside Down. After an excessively long delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the first seven episodes of Stranger Things season 4 bowed on Netflix in late May. In volume 1, Vecna possesses Max (Sadie Sink), but she manages to escape his clutches after her friends play her favorite song «Running Up That Hill.» In the climax of season 4, however, Vecna develops a psychic connection with Nancy (Natalia Dyer), putting her into a trance. Steve remained in the Upside Down to try to save Nancy from Vecna. The fates of both characters were left up in the air.
