Stranger Things actor David Harbour addresses the possibility of a spinoff for his character Jim Hopper. Stranger Things season 4 just released its last two episodes July 1, and season 5 is expected to release mid-2024 or even late-2023. Much to fans' relief, Harbour’s character was found surprisingly alive in a Soviet gulag in season 4, and his reunion with Joyce, Eleven, and the gang was long awaited this season.
With Hopper now returned to Hawkins for the final season, fans are excited to see him interact with characters he only saw again in the season finale. A fan-favorite, Hopper’s sad but relatable story of losing his daughter developed beautifully with his parental relationship with Eleven. Although they were separated for the majority of the season, Will, Hopper, Joyce, Jonathan, and Eleven seem to be finally coming together as a family, completing Hopper’s character arc in regards to his daughter and lack of familial ties.

Now, Harbour addresses the possibilities of a Stranger Things Hopper spinoff in an interview with GQ, saying that the Hawkins police chief is a strong enough character to stand on his own without the actor playing him. While a spinoff would most likely be a prequel, Harbour says he thinks Hopper can be used to go forward or back in time. Later in the interview, he even offers up Euphoria star Jacob Elordi as his choice for a young Hopper. Check out his full quote below:
