The television series has been a long time coming and has had famed director Steven Spielberg attached to it since 2013. And according to a new interview, Spielberg was still quite hands-on with the show premiering on Paramount+ on March 24.
As picked up by GamesRadar, Executive Producer Darryl Frank talked about Spielberg’s involvement in the newest issue of Total Film. The director is also an executive producer and his production company, Amblin Television, is producing the series. These ties imply an all-encompassing approach and Frank spoke frankly about what that meant for the show.
“We treated it as though it was a legacy project of Steven’s,” he said. “He godfathered it in terms of reading every script, helping choose showrunners, writers, director, cast, production design, and visual effects; every aspect of it, he looked at.”
Frank didn’t elaborate much past that, but it seems to show Spielberg’s commitment to the project. Spielberg was brought on in the show’s early days in 2013 and stayed on despite multiple staffing changes and delays that came in the following years. And now, almost a full decade later, the series is finally coming to fruition.
