Star Wars’ Anthony Daniels has revealed he’s returning to the Star Wars universe for another project. The only actor to be directly involved in every live-action Star Wars film, Daniels first donned C-3P0’s iconic golden suit for the original 1977 Star Wars, later retitled as Star Wars: A New Hope. An integral part of the franchise’s enduring legacy, Daniels would not only return for a cameo appearance as the fan-favorite protocol droid in 2016’s spinoff film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but he also briefly played a human slave in the spice mines of Kessel in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story as well.
Designed by the late Ralph McQuarrie, C-3PO (or Threepio as he is also often called), was based heavily on the robot Maschinenmensch from the 1927 German sci-fi film, Metropolis. While Star Wars creator George Lucas had originally envisioned Threepio with an American accent and had even considered legendary voice actor, Mel Blanc, for the role, he later changed his mind after Daniels tested for the role. Over the following decades, Daniels would continue to prove his dedication to the role by returning to voice him in various other mediums including specials, documentaries, video games, and animated series such as The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Star Wars Resistance.

Most recently. it appears that Daniels is set to return as the fastidious protocol droid once more, as the actor took to Instagram to share a behind-the-scenes photo of him in full motion-capture gear. Captioning the photo with the comment “Finally, a new suit – that fits!,” Daniels also tagged the London-based film studio, Ealing Studios. Check out his post below:
