The history of the Star Wars Battlefront franchise is as unique as it is tragic. You see, many video games from that galaxy far, far away have come out over the years, but this franchise was special. When it arrived in its original form, it was unlike anything we had seen before. You would choose the Empire or the Rebels and seek to conquer maps from classic scenes/battles from the original three movies. You could even bring in special characters to help you. The sequel brought in the prequel era and space battles for even more fun. There was supposed to be a Star Wars Battlefront 3, but it got canceled.
Then, when you fast forward a bit, EA and DICE decided to bring the franchise back and give it a powerful visual facelift. The first game was successful, albeit not as good as the original games, and that prompted a sequel. Unfortunately, that sequel became one of the most divisive and controversial titles ever because EA installed a “pay to win” gimmick via its loot boxes. It was so hated upon the game’s launch that the title removed the feature and played catchup for the rest of the game’s life. Of course, it didn’t help that the sequel still didn’t feel like the original titles from the PS2 era.
But, even with that, Star Wars Battlefront 3 was said to be in the works, and according to a person who worked on the game, it was almost done. But then, on the “two-yard line,” as they said, it was canceled:
