Stalker 2 has been further delayed to 2023, according to an Xbox list.
During the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase, an image was shown that listed 50 games coming to Xbox and PC within the next 12 months.
This list was split into 2022 and 2023, with 25 games listed for each year. Stalker 2 can be seen in the 2023 section, suggesting the game has suffered another delay.
The news isn’t entirely unexpected given the circumstances surrounding Stalker 2’s development, in that its developer GSC Game Studio is based in Ukraine.
In March, GSC Game World announced that the development of the shooter had been put on hold due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. It was reported later in March that the development team was moving from Kyiv to Prague.
In January, GSC announced that the game, originally scheduled to be released on April 28, had been delayed to December 8. However, this was before the Russian invasion.
Following Russia’s attack, the studio posted a video on its YouTube channel in early March in which it confirmed that the development of Stalker 2 had been put on hold as it dealt with the ongoing war.
“On the 24th of February, Russia declared war on Ukraine and sent rockets, tanks and soldiers to our homeland,” it said. “Our country is forced to fight for existence again. Seems like this is the price of freedom.”
Showing footage of explosions in various areas of Ukraine, the video added: “This video is our answer to [the] ‘how are you guys?’ question. Now we are striving to help our employees and their families to survive. The game development shifted to the sidelines. But we will definitely continue. After the victory. Glory to Ukraine.”
