One year ago, Square Enix officially announced Dragon Quest Treasures, a spin-off of Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age starring younger versions of party members Mia and Erik. At the time, Dragon Quest Treasures was described as an RPG, but not a traditional one. The cryptic description has been left standing in the year since, leavingDragon Quest fans puzzled. That may change soon, however, as Square Enix not only confirms Dragon Quest 12 development is progressing but that Treasures information is coming soon.
A special announcement was made on Thursday in which Dragon Quest 12's development team was described as «working hard.» In addition, it delivered a new Dragon Quest Treasures teaser trailer. The teaser trailer doesn't contain any revelations itself, unfortunately. It features brief glimpses of in-engine cinematics, sequences shown between gameplay that don't reveal much outside of context. There's some sort of celebration with cake and fireworks, a train in the sky, a pink cat with batwings and a green piglet with dragonfly wings, and one other significant glimpse of something more.
Dragon Quest 12 Has New Battle System, Story is Already Complete
The teaser trailer ends with what appears to be an overlook over a portion of the map of Dragon Quest Treasures. There's a large, cracked eggshell with a city floating at its center and an equally huge dragon's skull and spine covered in explorable land. Then, to the lower right, there's a snowy region with a giant tree. A third body of land can be seen behind the eggshell. This is clearly a huge world that Dragon Quest Treasures players will be able to explore.
