If there is one thing that is keeping the ancient Doom title alive, aside from the recent reboots, it's the dedicated modding community that wishes only to pay homage to the classic FPS with new ideas and custom changes a-plenty. Mods do all sorts of things to the influential title, including turning it into an acion-packed Ninja-Gaiden style game, or allowing people to take out their frustration by shooting NFTs in hell. With that, a recent add-on takes the innocent world of SpongeBob SquarePants and reimagines it as the violent shooter.
In a post on the Doom World forums, user ContrastSaturation has unveiled «The Bikini Bottom Massacre,» a full-conversion mod that does what it sounds like, lets Doom players loose in the aforementioned cartoon's world, where they will take on the role of Squidward. According to the post, the basic premise is that Squidward has just been fired from his much-hated job at the Krusty Krab, and the ensuing rampage in the fictional town commences. It's important to mention at this stage that the creator has issued a trigger warning, as the mod apparently contains references to suicide.

A recent trailer for «The Bikini Bottom Massacre» shows the combined ideas of the beloved cartoon with the pixilated first-person perspective of the id Software game. The high octane antics of cartoon-y violence, complete with an accompanying track from The Prodigy, really sell the idea of Squidward going postal in his hometown. Of course, SpongeBob SquarePants is no stranger to video games, but there are few instances in which someone creates a full conversion mod, and especially for something as classic as Doom.
