Paramount Pictures has released a fun new trailer for Sonic 2 spoofing The Batman, hailing the blue hedgehog as dispensing «blue justice.» The film is scheduled for release on April 8.
In the 50-second clip, which you can see blow, the iconic Bat-Signal has been changed to a silhouette of Sonic's head--as Sonic himself watches on in a rare moment of holding still. In Sonic 2's Super Bowl ad, much more of the film's plot is shown, breaking with the first movie by drawing more plot lines directly from the games (especially Sonic 3 & Knuckles). In Sonic 2, Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik is back with Knuckles in tow, and they're trying to find a special emerald that can destroy entire civilizations. Sonic and Tails take off on a global adventure to find the emerald first before Robotnik and Knuckles can get to it.
Once again, Ben Schwartz voices Sonic. Colleen O'Shaughnessey, who voices Tails in the Sonic video games, reprises the role of Tails in the film. James Marsden and Tika Sumpter also revisit their roles from the first film, and original director Jeff Fowler returns as well. Tim Miller, who directed the original Deadpool, returns as a producer on the sequel.
Google search has also recently paid tribute to Batman, releasing a new Easter egg feature that is easy to use.
The Batman hits theaters on March 3, and early reviews are indicating that critics so far are polarized. GameSpot's Mason Downey scored the film 6/10 in our The Batman review.
