Splatoon 3 has many modes for you to tackle, ranging from its contagiously fun and exciting multiplayer modes to its single-player-focused campaign Hero Mode. Each mode and activity will have its own goals and focus. Hero Mode contains its own upgrade path via Upgrade Points and Sardinium, allowing for leveling your character up to become stronger over time.

While the story mode for Splatoon was always enjoyable, Splatoon 3 takes things a step further and offers the best implementation of its campaign by a mile. As a result, the challenges are more complex, and the levels can be pretty tricky towards the end, making upgrading your Hero Gear one of the more crucial aspects of Hero Mode if you want to survive.
Upgrade Points are an earnable currency you obtain by progressing through the Hero Mode of Splatoon 3 and are often rewarded for clearing side activities or gathering Collectible Items. You can then use these Upgrade Points alongside Sardinium to purchase Upgrades for your character that range from making you more resistant to Ink to increasing the fire rate of your weapon.
Though only a handful of methods will grant you Upgrade Points, you should always seek them out whenever you get the chance, as there are 20 Upgrades for you to obtain in Splatoon 3, with almost all of them being worth the effort. Some of the late-game content in Splatoon 3 can be difficult, especially if you are looking to tackle every challenge in the game, and these Upgrades will help make them a bit more manageable.
