Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will raise the bar from the first installment as Spider-Verse 2 will not only be set in six different universes, but it will feature 240 characters. 2018 marked a major year for the Spider-Man property as Sony took the web-slinger to new lengths through the world of animation. While Tom Holland continued to swing in live-action as MCU's Peter Parker, Sony brought another member of the Spider-Family to life with Miles Morales. Not only did the fan-favorite hero get his cinematic debut, but it also brought Marvel's Spider-Verse concept from panel to screen.
While Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was primarily Miles' story, the animated installment allowed the teen hero to learn that he is not alone as a web-slinger. With characters like Peter B. Parker, Spider-Gwen, Peni Parker, Spider-Man Noir, and Spider-Ham, Miles' entry into heroism became a cinematic spectacular. Praised for its unique animation style, and storytelling, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse became a box office and critical success. The first film also won Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards, with Sony now continuing to commit to more Spider-Verse sequels, with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) on its way.
