SpaceX is trying to drive adoption of Starlink in the US by partnering with a local farm bureau to offer a discount on the satellite internet service.
On Tuesday, the Nebraska Farm Bureau announced(Opens in a new window) the partnership as a way to bring high-speed internet to rural areas of the state where traditional broadband options can be limited.
Depending on the plan, Starlink can cost $90 or $120 per month, along with a $599 one-time hardware fee, when you first sign-up. However, the Nebraska Farm Bureau has set up a deal where its members will receive the first two months of Starlink service for free, saving them about $200 in cost.
“This is an incredible opportunity for farmers, ranchers, and all Nebraskans to have access to high-speed high-quality internet service,” the group said(Opens in a new window) in the announcement.
SpaceX also benefits by receiving a flow of new customers. The bureau says it has “more than 55,000 member families” in the state. Nebraska Farm Bureau members can take advantage of the deal by visiting www.nefb.org/benefits(Opens in a new window), signing in, and then tapping the Starlink benefit to start subscribing for the satellite internet service with the bundled promotion.
The partnership occurs as SpaceX seems to be trying to sell Starlink to more consumers across the US. Last month, the company began selling Starlink hardware at the retailers, Best Buy and Home Depot. The sales at Best Buy even offered a $100 discount on the Starlink dish during the Memorial Day weekend.
