Sony has provided the first look at the digital collectibles that will be available through its upcoming PlayStation Stars loyalty programme.
Announced in July, PlayStation Stars will enable players to earn rewards by completing a variety of campaigns and activities.
A number of these digital collectibles are shown off in the trailer below, which first aired during a State of Play presentation on Tuesday.
“Digital collectibles represent the things that PlayStation fans enjoy, including cherished devices that tap into Sony’s broader heritage in consumer electronics,” Grace Chen, PlayStation’s vice president of network advertising, loyalty and licensed merchandise, said in an accompanying blog post.
“These first look examples include a scene with Punto the gondolier from Ape Escape 2, PlayStation 3, PocketStation, Toro and Kuro celebrating a birthday, Chord Machine, and Polygon Man.”
These collectibles will only be available through PlayStation Stars.
“In some instances, collectibles will be provided as a way to commemorate past activities, achievements, or product ownership,” Chen said. “They range in rarity, just like the actual products on which they are based or the effort required to earn them.”
Players will be able to arrange collectibles in a virtual display case within the PlayStation App and show them off to friends within their PSN profile.
The primary way to earn collectibles will be through completing campaigns.
“The campaigns in PlayStation Stars will be fun, delightful, and yes, sometimes challenging to complete,” said Chen. “A campaign may be a point-earning or collectible-earning activity.
