Sony will launch its PlayStation Stars loyalty programme in Asia today and in other regions next month.
Following the Asian launch on September 29 (local time), the rewards scheme will roll out in the Americas on October 5, and in Europe and Australia on October 13.
Announced in July, PlayStation Stars will enable players to earn rewards by completing a variety of campaigns and activities.
PlayStation Stars will initially be available via the PlayStation App and expand to consoles at a later date.
It will be free to join for adult PlayStation Network account holders and won’t require a PlayStation Plus membership, although having one will offer additional benefits.
“There are two types of rewards – loyalty points and digital collectibles,” Sony said in a guide published on Wednesday. “Points can be redeemed in a catalog that may include PSN wallet funds, exclusive digital collectibles and select PlayStation Store products.
“As an additional benefit, PlayStation Plus members enrolled in PlayStation Stars automatically earn points for purchases on PlayStation Store.”
At launch, simply by joining, all members will receive the Star Gazer Telescope. A number of upcoming digital collectibles were revealed in the trailer above, which first aired during a State of Play presentation earlier this month.
“Digital collectibles represent the things that PlayStation fans enjoy, including cherished devices that tap into Sony’s broader heritage in consumer electronics,” Grace Chen, PlayStation’s vice president of network advertising, loyalty and licensed merchandise, said at the time.
