Sony has confirmed that is it is interested in Kadokawa, the Japanese conglomerate that owns a large amount of anime and manga IP, as well as Elden Ring developer FromSoftware.
Last month it was reported that Kadokawa, the media powerhouse that owns Elden Ring developer FromSoftware among other companies, was in talks to be acquired by Sony.
Following these reports, the company confirmed that discussions had taken place, but that no decision had been made.
Now, Sony has commented on the reports.
“It’s true that we have made an initial statement of intent,” Sony said when asked about its plans for the Japanese media giant. (via Yahoo Japan, translated by VGC ). “We would appreciate it if you would allow us to refrain from further comment.”
Employees of Kadokawa are reportedly hopeful that a potential takeover by Sony is completed, due to issues with the current management at the company.
Kadokawa Corporation is a Japanese media conglomerate which owns a number of companies specialising in book and manga publishing, film production, DVD sales and cross-media.
Kadokawa also owns Dwango, a Japanese telecoms and media company which owns developer Spike Chunsoft (most recently responsible for Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero).
Earlier this year, it also bought Acquire, the Tokyo studio known in recent years for Octopath Traveler, Octopath Traveler II and Mario & Lugi: Brothership.
