A cinematic trailer for Sonic Frontiers was shown at The Game Awards, confirming the many rumors that Sonic Frontiers was going to be the franchise's take on an open-world exploration, similar to games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The amount of information that fans have received about the game after that however was rather sparse.
The only details fans knew was the game's aforementioned «open-zone» gameplay, and that it would feature some form of «dexterous» combat. In regard to the story, Ian Flynn, who has penned many of Sonic's comic adventures would be responsible for crafting it. After months of silence, fans finally got a good look at the gameplay of Sonic Frontiers, in a new sneak peek trailer from Sega.

This trailer kicks off with a familiar shot of Sonic running through the game's forest in CGI cutscene, before cutting to show him running across the plains of the open-world. It also briefly shows Sonic's boost mechanic, which sees him running through a field of flowers. There also seems to be a hamster wheel kind of device that Sonic can find in the world, which when powered, can be used as a waypoint, with the game showing how it scans the surrounding environment. Notable items can also be seen, such as the spring and floating platforms.
This trailer also focuses on the combat of Sonic Frontiers, which seems him facing off against some robotic enemies. One move that Sonic can do is circle around the enemy, creating a trail of light, which launches them into the air, followed up by Sonic's signature homing attack.
