A new trailer for Sonic Frontiers has revealed some new plot details for our speedy friend's next adventure, as well as confirmed the release date leaked earlier today of November 8 this year.
Shown at Gamescom's Opening Night Live event, we see Sonic running around various levels, including large, open areas like what we've seen in much of the footage up to this point as well as levels that look more like new iterations on both 2D and 3D Sonic games prior.
We see a few mysterious new characters, including a small, cute creature at the opening, more robotic villains, and a mysterious, glitchy young foe associated with them. Most notably, we get a glimpse of Sonic's friend Amy trapped in some sort of device that appears relate to the game's villains, but it's unclear if Sonic is able to get her out immediately or if her capture is relevent to the plot long term.
The "open zone" new Sonic game aims to expand the scope of the series. Our first hands-on preview called it "an exciting new step forward", but cautioned that there was "a lot of distracting pop-in, there’s a fair amount of bugs still left to be squashed, and the big boss fights could do with some tweaking" ahead of release.
