When you think of Sonic merch, you probably imagine cheap stuff you can find in any supermarket. At best, a big Lego set. But now, the blue blur and his Hot Topic counterpart are set to get the premium figurine treatment they deserve - and probably an expensive one at that.
High-end figurine line S-Fire has unveiled the prototype of a Sonic and Shadow collectable, reminiscent of their appearance in Sonic Adventure 2. The figurine isn't available in colour just yet, but it's already blowing fans away with its intricate details on both the characters and the backdrop. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that it's a reference to one of the most adored games in the Sonic collection too.

Judging by a translated report from Hobby Dengeki, the prototype was unveiled at Wonder Festival 2022. It seems that S-Fire didn't provide any information on pricing as part of its booth at the convention, however, judging by its past offerings, it certainly won't be on the cheap side.
S-Fire doesn't have many products on its site, but one of its My Hero Academia figures bears some similarities with the Sonic prototype, in that they both feature two characters. If this is anything to go by, we can expect the Sonic and Shadow model to set us back around ¥54,780 (£350 or $475).
Fingers crossed, this figurine will see a release outside of Japan - because I dread to think what import fees would be on top of that price tag.
There's no word on a release date just yet, but considering how detailed the prototype is looking, we might not have to wait much longer. Sonic Adventure 2 will turn 21 in June, so it's possible that it will coincide with its birthday.
